Synopsis

This  unit  introduces students with a background in plant biology
to major  areas  of current research in plant physiology. Lecture
Topics include: Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology,
Photosynthesis, Effects of  light on plant development and Nitrogen
metabolism.  The importance of cell signalling mechanisms in response
to environmental cues and the regulation of gene expression is
emphasised.  In the laboratory students gain  practical experience
in the application of tissue culture techniques  to  plant research.
