Group Dynamics

How Did Collaborative Planning and Learning work in your group?

During the course of this assignment, we held regular meetings where every person regularly attended each session. These meetings were based upon discussion sessions whereby:

- jobs were allocated

- there was talk of job accomplishment

- each person provided both positive and negative feedback

- problems were discussed

- helpful hints and ideas for improvements were suggested

- there was trading of resources between each member regarding information and their topic

On several occasions the group visited the school where we:

- set out our aims and objectives

- talked to different teachers regarding their current environmental education policies

- talked to the teachers regarding their ideas, knowledge and future plans for the sight

- talked to the children about their views and environmental awareness

- measured the area and location of prominent features

- sketched maps of the blocks

- discussed suitable activities for the size and geographical setting of the school

- recorded names of plants and trees in the adjacent blocks

- recorded video footage of the current geographical setting of the three blocks and some additional footage of the school grounds

The work distribution was set out so that each person had their own topic regarding an environmental issue for a set age group. These topics were:

1. Global Warming and Sun Smart Policy

2. Recycling and Waste Management

3. Habitat Awareness and Ecology

Each person was allocated a topic, and was responsible for the findings of information and costings based upon the decisions of the group with regards to what each area should contain. However during the course of this assignment each group member also contributed to each others by finding information and activities for each other.

Overall the group worked extremely well together. As a group there was lots of collaborative planing whereby everything was well thought out and discussed in detail before collectively we decided on an issue. It was here in these groups that our true natures came out in us individually whereby there were leaders, thinkers, workers and decision makers. It was interesting to note from week to week that these roles often changed between us whereby our thoughts and beliefs were often expressed with interest, and where other weeks where we just went with the flow.

On some occasions in the group , there was some minor disagreements with regards to decision making. These actions were just a result of different people viewing their opinions and expressing their beliefs in different ways. However when these small disagreements did arise, they were always settled quickly and quietly with input from other members of the group. However overall the group enjoyed working together and showed an eagerness to work together and get the work completed at ant early age.
