My teaching and research focus in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education, and especially in Online Education.
I grew up in Toowoomba and commenced my undergraduate degree in Chemistry among the first group of students to enrol in 1967 on the campus of what is now USQ. In 1970 I moved to Brisbane where I completed my Masters degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Queensland while undertaking research at the Queensland Institute of Technology (now QUT). In 1973 I completed a Diploma in Education at University of Queensland. I taught and was Principal in Queensland secondary schools before joining USQ as a lecturer in 1991. During 2001-2002 I worked with what is now the Learning Design and Technology group at Purdue University in the USA. Since returning to USQ in 2002 I have served in various administrative roles as well continuing with teaching and research.
My current research interests centre on online education, integration of ICT in teaching, and the educational application of multimedia. My publications list includes links to the full text of a number of papers.
I am a member of several professional associations. From 1995 until 2001 I was chair of the Toowoomba Chapter of the Queensland Society for Information Technology in Education and during 1999 - 2001 I was Editor of the QSITE Journal, QUICK. From 2005 until 2009 I was Vice-President of the Information Technology Council in the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education. Since 2005 I have been an Associate Editor for the Journal of Technology and Teacher Education and I have recently been confirmed as Editor in Chief for the 2012-2014 period.
I maintain a blog, mostly for links to useful sites, have an entry in Linkedin and am occasionally active on Twitter and Facebook. I cycle and walk for fitness and enjoy photography when I have a little time to spare.
