Guide Signs

Left: Advance Direction Sign.

The normal form of Guide Sign is a
rectangular sign with the long side
horizontal and white lettering on a
green background, although there are
many variations on this colour scheme.
This advance direction sign is placed
before an intersection to assist the
motorist in route selection.

Right: Reassurance Direction Sign.

The reassurance direction sign is placed
after an intersection or town to reassure
the driver that the correct route has been
chosen, and to indicate travel distances.

Left: Advance Direction Sign With
Route Markers

The identification and direction of major
routes is indicated with route markers.
This picture illustrates the shields used for
National Highways (54) and National
Routes (42).

Right: Finger Boards and Street Name
Signs.

This picture shows the use of multiple
finger boards (white on green), street
name (Preston Boundary Rd, black on
white) and information (Gorman's Gap)
signs on a single post.

Left: Tourist Drive Marker.

White lettering on a brown background,
and a distinctive shield shape, is often
used to indicate tourist drives. This
picture shows the addition of a colourful
floral motif at the bottom of the shield,
to emphasise one of the district's main
tourist attractions (spring flowers).
