 Out of Normal Hours Student Access

In other words swipecard access.
This privilege is given to Engineering students on a semester by semester basis so they can access the computer labs after hours.
This is a privilege not a right. It is only given because students need to use faculty facilities after hours to complete class or assignment work that can't be completed between 8.00am and 6.00pm when the labs are unlocked.

This access is authorised by the lecturer for a given course, by signing an OUT OF NORMAL HOURS ACCESS AUTHORISATION FORM .
This form can be picked up from us (Z217) or downloaded by clicking on the link above.
Student names are to be written on the form or a class list print-out may be attached
or a list emailed to both Brett J Richards and Terry Byrne.

The exception to this rule is project students, they have access for whole academic year. There is no need for their supervisor to sign a form, provided their name is on the project allocation on the web. The examiner for the project gives blanket access. If they are enrolled and their name is not yet on the web the supervisor may sign a form.

A word of warning please read the paragraph below, this is the authorisation that is on the form that is signed to give students access - Be aware of what you are signing!!!

“I authorise Out of Normal Hours Access for the above student/s.  Access is required so that the student/s may complete work that is unable to be completed during timetabled classes.  I understand that no staff are available to supervise this access and I have briefed the student/s on the safety and security requirements associated with out of normal hours access to faculty laboratories.”

Academic staff should get students to sign that they have been briefed on safety as the declaration by academics says.  They should also keep a copy of what they tell students, should there ever be a dispute.

On the Form there is a number of Access Types these refer to the rooms that you can select the students to access

UGRAD - Main foyer doors, Level 3 East wing door,Z307, Z308, Z310, Z311
UGSURVEY - Main foyer doors, Level 3 East wing door, Z307, Z308, Z310, Z311 + Survey Store (8-5pm week days)
UGPROJECT - Main foyer doors, Level 3 East wing door, Level 3 West wing door Z307, Z308, Z310, Z311, Z320

Normal week days - 7.45am -10.00pm
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday - 8.00am - 5.00pm

Meng-TECH students

Once enrolment is confirmed by the admin staff or from a list passed onto us by admin, they are granted access.

Meng-TECH - Main foyer doors, Level 3 East wing door, Level 3 West wing door Z307, Z308, Z310, Z311.

Normal week days - 7.30am -10.00pm
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays - 8.00am - 10.00pm

Z217 Workshop Service Window

Please Note: The access times for the Z217 Service Window for students to get access cards setup is as follows

Monday 8am – 5pm

Tuesday 1pm – 5pm

Wednesday 1pm – 5pm

Thursday 1pm – 5pm

Friday 8am – 5pm
