A year ago in the blog I kept for the 2006 Festival, we were suffering the weather blues. Walk-up audiences were down because of intermittent showers, and we’d programmed an additional Sunday show in hopes of catching disappointed theatre-goers.
This year the skies have been deep blue and star-filled for all of the shows. On one evening, as Lady M was doing her famous hand washing scene “Out damn’d spot!” I looked up to the low cloud scudding across the full moon. Right on cue, a large bat flew across the sky. You can’t manufacture (or buy) effects like these!
With the three-day rest period which finishes today, there have been some welcome showers, but the forecast (alas for some) shows them clearing in time for tomorrow evening and for the rest of the season.
Right now the company is gearing up for the next big event in the Festival: Sonnets at Breakfast. Rehearsals on scenes, sonnets and songs are taking place in parallel rehearsal rooms, and the technical production crew are doing the organisational magic which brings all the elements together on the day.
