Many international students currently undertaking their degree studies in faculty programs at USQ began their studies with the UNIPREP program.   Students have attested to the important learning experiences that UNIPREP provided and the knowledge and skills, which they have subsequently been able to draw upon for success in their award programs.  The following recent testimonials are quoted with permission below.

 Venus Jamali – Bachelor of Information Technology (2^nd year) (UNIPREP student S3 2002)

When I started my degree I wasn’t as nervous as when I started UNIPREP. This was because I was quite confident in myself and with writing assignments, which was my fear in studying in a new language. I found UNIPREP very useful and helpful especially in my first semester. I didn’t actually realize how much I’d learnt until assignment times.  Because I’m doing IT in the Business faculty I have to do a lot of reports and of course I knew how to write a good report based on what I learnt in UNIPREP. I also had a few presentations to do and I used the structures I’d learnt in UNIPREP. I had to do an essay this semester in my second year, which was my first one since UNIPREP.  I was a bit worried at the beginning because it had been such a long time sine I wrote one, but as I started to analyse the question I found it easy and I remembered how to write appropriate paragraphs and use appropriate language.  I still find my UNIPREP books and notes useful – I refer to them sometimes to help me with stuff such as what a good thesis statement looks like and so on.

I am doing Bachelor of Arts majoring in Public Relations.  I found that the technique of doing assignments we learned in UNIPREP helped me a lot in the first year.  Since we learned and practiced how to manage assignments by writing essays throughout the whole semester, by the time I started uni, I felt confident and I could manage all of the assignments.  Also referencing is one of the skills I learned from UNIPREP.  I did not know what was referencing and how important it is.  Usually in the assignment criteria, there are some marks for correct referencing at uni.  In UNIPREP, we repeatedly practised so I could obtain the referencing skill successfully.
