About the Course
|
Synopsis: This course provides a general introduction and overview of the emergence of environmental issues at the global scale and covers such topics as the physical environment, biological diversity, and human impact on the natural environment. Issues examined from a global perspective include food and fibre resources, water resources, energy production and use, mining, fishing and forestry, atmospheric pollution, climate change, urbanisation and waste management. The principles for sustainable development are introduced and possible future management of resources and the environment are discussed. REN8101 Environment, Society & Sustainability is an inter-disciplinary inter-faculty unit jointly taught by members of the Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Business (Dept. of Economics and Resources Management) at USQ. The course has been designed to provide an overview of humankind's interaction with the environment at the global scale. The material is presented in a number of distinct, but closely inter-related modules over the course of the semester (see table below).
