Coppertales

A Journal of Rural Arts

Coppertales is a joint publication by the Faculty of Arts and the University of Southern Queensland Press. Coppertales is a contemporary journal of rural arts edited by Alison Bartlett, Chris Lee and Brian Musgrove from the Department of Humanities and International Studies at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba.

The magazine publishes poetry, short fiction, life stories, articles, art work, photographs, reviews and interviews which feature rural experience. The magazine's intention is to promote Queensland and Australian rural culture. Too often rural Australia is misrepresented as a simple and often outdated stereotype. Coppertales showcases the sophistication and diversity of life in this country's modern regional cultures.

Coppertail: A member of the democratic classes (G. A. Wilkes, Dictionary of Australian Colloquialisms)

Contributors guidelines

Coppertales has a special but not exclusive interest in all aspects of rural culture. It accepts short stories and articles up to 4000 words, poems, photo-essays, graphics and book reviews. Submissions should use New MLA style and be accompanied by a SSAE and a brief biographical note. Upon acceptance contributors will be asked to supply their contribution on disk in IBM format -- preferably Microsoft Word. Coppertales currently pays for poetry, short fiction, artwork and photography. Unfortunately rising costs have forced us to discontinue the practice of supplying complementary copies to all contributors. Contributions to Coppertales should not be under consideration by another publisher. Contributors may submit material electronically to leec@usq.edu.au

The best way to develop a sense of the editorial style and preference of Coppertales is to purchase a copy. Small magazines live and die on their sales. You can purchase the latest copy of Coppertales by sending a cheque for $12.00 to Humanities and International Studies, Arts, USQ, Toowoomba 4350 or filling out the subscription form. A limited number of back issues are available for $15 a copy; $5 a copy for issue No.1.
