Is this an example of "good thinking"?

The APS College of Organisational Psychology has information at http://www.bhs.mq.edu.au/aps/collorg.html The APS College of Organisational Psychologists aims to promote and raise the profile of Organisational Psychology and acts to provide the community with information and access to the services of Organisational Psychologists.

  1. The Job Analysis/Classification & Personality Research web site is at http://harvey.psyc.vt.edu/ A great site containing lots of information, documents, data, and software dealing with job analysis/classification and personality assessment.
  2. The Institute for Job & Occupational Analysis at http://www.ijoa.org This site defines Job Analysis as the process of collecting data to describe observable (or otherwise verifiable) work behaviours and characteristics of the work environment. It also has some links to other  job and occupational analysis related websites.
  3. The HR-Guide at http://www.hr-guide.com provides thousands of links to websites and software resources of interest to Human Resources professionals and students. There is a section on Job Analysis at http://www.hr-guide.com/jobanalysis.htm . This is an excellent resource!.
  4. O*NET - The Occupational Information Network is at http://onetcenter.org/ . O*NET, the Occupational Information Network, captures those changes in terms that reflect the latest research in the field of job analysis. By identifying and describing the key components of modern occupations, O*NET supplies the nation with up-dated information critical to the effective training, education, counselling and employment of workers.   1. The Society for Human Resource Management has some useful links at http://www.shrm.org . Contains all of the latest news in the field of HRM, including an online HR News service at http://www.shrm.org/hrnews/.
  2. The homepage for the Human Resource Global Network is at http://www.mcb.co.uk/hr/ They claim that the HR Global Network aims to help all managers, academics and researchers with an interest in HR development, broadening your knowledge by providing you with more informed research, ultimately helping your business to be more competitive.

Module 4 - Assessing Individuals

  1. Buros Institute of Mental Measurements homepage with links to the ERIC/AE Test Locater, Mental Measurements Yearbook and Tests in Print at http://www.unl.edu/buros This is an excellent resource that includes The Educational Testing Service (ETS) Test Collection database containing records on over 10,000 tests and research instruments. These records describe the instruments and provide availability information.
  2. Australian Council for Educational Research homepage at http://www.acer.edu.au This organisation is one of the largest distributors of psychological tests in Australia. They have a Personnel Selection and Human Resource Development Catalogue at http://www.acer.edu.au/products/personnel/personnel_catalogue.htm that has information about tests of General Ability, Occupational Skill and Aptitudes, Human Resource Development, Career Guidance, Personality and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
  3. National Computer Systems homepage at http://www.ncs.com They have a description of their areas of expertise in testing and assessment at http://www.ncs.com/ncscorp/aoe/testing.htm In particular, they have an excellent suite of tests called the Campbell Development Surveys, which used by organizational psychologists and human resource professionals in a wide range of organizational settings.   4. Consulting Psychologists Press homepage at http://www.mbti.com This company is the American distributor for the well-known Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and has tests that cover personal, career and organisational development.
  5. Saville & Holdsworth Ltd Online is at http://www.shlgroup.com They claim that SHL is a world leader in the objective assessment of people, jobs and organisational context helping clients increase productivity and gain competitive edge through the more effective use of their human resources.

  2. The web site of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) is located at http://www.ispi.org. The ISPI is dedicated to improving human performance in the workplace in systematic and reproducible ways. The web site is organised into three main sections - ISPI information, professional services, and publication information. this site has a variety of features.
  3. One of the largest sites relating to Training and Development  on the web is Big Dog's Human Resource Development page at http://www.nwlink.com/~donclark/hrd.html. Module 7 - Maintaining Employees' Health and Well-Being

  1. The Michigan Prevention Research Centre (MPRC) is dedicated to a program of prevention research on the problems of employment, economic stress, and well-being throughout the life course. MPRC seeks to extend scientific understanding of the links between conditions of employment and mental and physical health, while at the same time, expanding the policy and practice options available to both the public and private sector. One of the projects that the MPRC has developed is the The JOBS program for the Unemployed, which was designed to help unemployed people reenter the labor market. JOBS has been shown in large scale randomized experiments to produce higher rates of reemployment, better paying jobs, and lower rates of mental health problems.   2. A program called the Changing Wonky Beliefs course that is based on cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) model and also Dr. Martin Seligman's (1990) work on Learned Optimism is available at http://www.usq.edu.au/users/machin/cwb.htm . This course incorporates Dr. Martin Seligman's recommended training sequence for imparting the necessary skills to bring about the desired changes in feelings and behaviours. The sequence emphasises learning more constructive thoughts and statements, and developing an optimistic explanatory styles. Sample topic areas included: the concept of automatic thoughts, recognising distorted thinking, and characteristics of optimistic thinking.

  3. The International Workplace Studies Program (IWSP) at Cornell University conducts research on the ecology of new ways of working. The intent of the research is to help organisations gain a competitive advantage by better understanding how innovative workplace strategies contribute to the effectiveness of individuals, teams and organisations.   4. The Director of the Centre for Creative Leadership, Dr. David Campbell has developed psychological tests for assessing teamwork (Campbell-Hallam Team Development Survey) and organisational climate (Campbell Organisational Survey). The Center for Industrial Ergonomics at the University of Louisville includes research and educational activities that focus on integrating people, organization and technology at work, and improving quality and productivity through ergonomics and safety management.
