Welcome to my home page. I teach at the University of Southern Queensland in the area of open and distance learning.
Qualifications
Background
I was born in Queensland, Australia and have been based in the Toowoomba region for 40 years. After graduating from the Kelvin Grove Teachers College in 1960, I worked for twelve years with the Queensland Department of Education as a teacher in small and large schools and as an advisory teacher in Mathematics.
I joined the then Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education in 1972 as a "tutor-demonstrator" in mathematics based in the School of Applied Science but responsible for the mathematics education programs in the School of Teacher Education and General Studies.
My 27 years at the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education (later to become the University of Southern Queensland) has seen roles and responsibilities in mathematics education, curriculum theory, research and evaluation, and more recently open and distance learning.

Teaching
I am currently unit examiner for the following units in the Online programs (Graduate Certificates and Masters programs):
Research
My research interests and publications are in the following main areas: instructional design for open and distance learning, teaching and learning online, access and equity, technology enhanced learning.
Successful grant applications have come from the Department of Employment, Education and Training, Queensland Department of Education and Priority Country Area Program. I have also been involved in funded consultancies in Solomon Islands (World Bank), Pakistan (Asian Development Bank and Commonwealth of Learning), Malawi (Malawi Ministry of Education).

I am currently a member of the Student Equity Group, Associate Deans' Committee, a member of the Department of Further Education and Training's Management Committee, the Distance Education Centre's Management Committee and the Dean's Education Standing Committee.
Community Service
I am currently a member of Rotary and a member of the Management Committee responsible for the Toowoomba Flexi School, an alternative school for disadvantaged youth.

Apart from travel, I am keen on golf and fishing, enjoy a good wine and find gardening good therapy.
