Navigating
the CD was easy. My other course, which was paper based did not have such
easy interaction with the learning materials.
-
Good,
but a bit slow when I needed to go back and reread
things. Would prefer to have it in a book, especially
when revising work.
-
Other
courses have not shown the same effectiveness that the communication Cd
has shown.
-
Yes
-
YES!
Having the PowerPoint presentation with voice over was an extremely
effective way to learn. I feel that
my high mark is indicative of this, as opposed to what I feel will be a
failing mark with my other module which did not have such an effective learning
tool.
-
-
The
CD based materials were invaluable aids for learning and I would love to
see more of it across this and other faculties.
-
I
found this really helpful especially for the oral communication.
I still like to use printed material first and find the CD aids in
learning.
-
Still
getting used to using CD and computer more often than printed version which
I am very comfortable and used to but liked using the CD and look forward
to becoming more comfortable with it as it is very useful.
-
Yes
I would like to see the same type of thing used in other courses. I also
did psy1010 and I found cms1000 more enjoyable because the cds' with Eleanor talking on them to the PowerPoint presentation
were fantastic and more easier to learn from.
-
I
found them to be effective as opposed to another course I did that only
had print. Could access what I wanted easier, instead of looking through
print to find what I need.
-
The
diagrams presented throughout the modules were not available to me and would
not show up on my computer screen. They were just blank boxes that would
not respond to anything. The only diagrams I had access to were the ones
in the resources.
-
Depending
on what courses! Mathematical/statistical, a BIG NO! Written courses, okay,
I don't have a problem, and the CD based learning could be an advantage.
-
It
was very useful but I did have a problem with the CD actually breaking.
-
To
be honest I only used the CD to view one of the PowerPoint presentations,
the rest of the time I used the printed version.
-
I
found it difficult to get an overview of the course using the CD.
It was easy to navigate around it and find resources.
However, for quick access to information, it is much easier to flick
through a book, than start up the computer and then have to navigate around
the CD to find what I wanted. Particularly
when it was a specific paragraph, it was very slow.
-
CDs
in other courses would be helpful as well.
-
This
was useful in understanding and using other materials.
-
I
found the CD based learning materials very easy to follow and the fact that
all the information that I needed for that module was easily transportable,
without having to carry books around with me all the time. I do some of my study at home and I have hours
allocated to me at work, so I found the CD a user friendly form of study.
-
I
found the CD based learning materials very helpful.
-
It
was very easy to find things. Clicking a link is much less time consuming
than skimming through pages of writing trying to find what you're looking
for.
-
I
didn’t use them very much...I sort of found this stuff confusing, so I tried
to find my own way around.
-
I
am unable to study by CD rom (computer), so had the material sent to me
in printed form.
-
It
was very effective locating and accessing associated learning elements within
the course, as this is the first time I have used the cd, I don’t know whether I would like to see the same thing
in other courses. I am a visual person,
the way I learn, so it did help me, and it would depend on the other type
of courses.
-
Yes
please
-
I
found the CD to be very helpful.
-
It
would be much better if the topic is mentioned with the module. Therefore
I don't have to click each module to find out the topic I want.
-
Yes.
I found it very helpful.
-
CD
was useful but I don't particularly like screen based stuff - prefer a nard
copy print that I can read, highlight etc.
-
Yes.
-
Very
effective and helpful.
-
Yes,
would like to see in other courses.
-
I
can not comment on hyperlinking strategies because it is something new to
me. However, it would be good to have the same thing in other courses.
-
Yes,
as the model of teaching is turning to be more flexible and varied, I think
this approach should be adapted by more subjects.
-
Personally
I hated the CD. I prefer having a booklet and being able to look
-
They
were very helpful with this.
-
Not
Really I prefer print rather than CD.
-
Would
have liked a clearer link between oral presentation and related material.
I would love to see CD learning materials in other courses.
-
Readings
are much better accessed via conventional printed matter. The university
would simply be adding another cost impost onto the student by making them
print out all the materials they need (readings, particularly) themselves.
What does the course fee cover if not some printed material? (a
$0.12 CD?)
-
Yes
I found these to be of great use
-
The
CD needs a search function so you can search for words when doing your final
exam preparations.
-
The
CD was a very useful tool for navigating and interlinking all course material.
As communication studies cover many areas at once the CD made jumping between
chapter’s modules and reference materials very easy. I would recommend this
media for other courses.
-
Quite
effective, I didn't use them too often as I preferred to use only the print
based. Yes it would be helpful for other courses.
-
Reasonably
helpful at times. Sometimes found that there were numerous ways
to reach/find something I was searching for which become more unhelpful
then helpful.
-
Yes,
they were helpful. I think a combination of print and CD is most helpful,
for all courses.
-
They
were reasonably effective in accessing associated learning elements, however
without a printed version it is difficult to place the learning element
in the overall picture. Yes, I would like to see the Hyper-linking strategy
in other courses.
-
It
took me some time to find all the relevant areas on the CD that I really
needed to know about. I think I may find the printed study book for Sem2
subjects a bit more friendly.
-
Hyperlinking
was a good asset, however, the in-mobility of the CD materials by itself
is a negative point and I wouldn’t want it for my other courses, unless
both printed and CD means are provided for.
-
This
method of delivery would be perfect for all forms of external study.
-
Yes,
usually for things I wanted to find quickly. Normally I just used the windows
explorer function to navigate through the CD when I wasn't in a hurry.
-
I
definitely would love to see this approach used within other courses, was
great.
-
I
would definitely like to see this in other courses.
-
It
was very helpful. Strongly feel this form of study and referencing would
be of benefit in other subjects.
-
I
found it to be effective and aided in my understanding of the modules. At
first I had a few hitches with using the CD but once I got going it was
easy and I printed off stuff as I went along which was useful.
-
Excellent
and I don't know why it has taken USQ so long to catch on. As it is you
are still only 5yrs behind other universities in your course deliveries.
Not specifically you as such. Intro to Computers is the worst I have seen
so far but the history subjects are also woeful. Don't tell them that until
I have finished though. Ack, it is like criticising
the student guild.
-
I
like hyperlinks and find them useful; however I am a very visual person
and prefer print for my learning. I had to print a lot of the course material
for my owl learning.
-
Excellent. Every minute counts to an external student who
has a family and works full time and the time I didn't spend hunting down
'where I saw that quote' or 'where were those resources' is time that I
could be progressing with reading or doing other study related activities.
-
The
CD based learning materials were a very useful adjunct to the supplied materials
although reading material is more what I am used to. Now that I am getting
accustomed to CDs and interactivity I welcome any technological features
which could help in understanding the course.
-
Somewhat
helpful, however, I had to review this several times to get the gist of
what was required
-
The
learning materials were helpful and links to other things such as PowerPoint
slides were great
-
Due
to security issues with computers some of the info on the CD was unable
to be accessed by me. I would prefer
a hard copy of the materials for ease of access.
-
As
a distance student the CD rom allowed me to hear the lecturer speaking about
something that she has studied and knows well. I believe a
transference takes place sometimes at this level that is not acquired
by reading printed text. I would like to see lectures delivered live to
distance students for this reason. We should be making more use of technology
for teaching.
-
The
CD was very useful particularly with accessing hyper-links. However for
some courses the use of printed material would be more appropriate.
-
No
I would not like to see every course use CD
-
Yes,
that would be a great idea.
-
I
found the cd ok, however it isn't my ideal way of finding information (call
me old fashion), I prefer a printed version as
I sometimes like to read outside instead of in front of a computer.
-
The
hyperlinks were o.k. but not all items opened Perhaps this could be improved
so that next time there is a way to get a back up copy if the links don't
happen. Could be useful for other courses
-
The
CD is very useful. However, it would be much better if a printed copy is
provided with the CD to allow students to read them anywhere they can.
-
Yes
it would be great
-
Yes
-
It
was very effective and I would love if all the other courses had the same
thing.
-
It
is hard because u just have to stare at the comp
but I would strongly prefer printed materials
-
I
loved having the lecture slides with audio; I really wished that some of
my other courses have this information because I feel you loose a lot of
meaning simply looking through the PowerPoint slides. I did however find that sometimes the CD version
was difficult because when I was typing my assignments I had to keep going
back to the material, so in this case I did have to print a lot of information.
It took a little bit of getting use to but I really did enjoy the
CD. It was easy to navigate, I found
that I used the site map whenever I got a little lost - this was an invaluable
tool on the cd.
-
As
a visual learner I found the CD a useful tool as it was interactive hands
on, vice churning thru mounds of paper.
-
CDs
are fine but I prefer printed material. I did not use hyper-linking etc.
-
It
was very effective, as for me, it was to easy to
navigate between readings and whole content of CD.
-
I
found the cd very helpful especially in being able to print what I needed.
Yes I would like to see this in other courses.
-
Yes
I do believe this approach saves time and would be helpful in other courses
-
It
is certainly more accessible than printed materials. Yes, I would not mind
having it in other courses, though for a course that has a lot of information
apart from textbooks, I would prefer a printed version of the materials.
-
Effective
and yes, I would like to see it.
-
I
found them very helpful and easy to use, a great guide and would strongly
recommend the use of it in other courses
-
I
found the CD based learning materials very helpful, and would like to see
a similar approach used in other courses.
-
Yes,
I would like to see a CD provided for all of the Uni Courses.
-
Yes,
I agree that this approach would be very useful in other courses.
-
Yes,
this is a great way to present course material. Gives students a global perspective,
more so than printed material. In my view.
-
They
were helpful and when you are new to external studies they really felt like
your hand was being held, but in a good way for a beginner.
-
1.
It is easy and fast to use hyperlinking to find related materials. 2. Of
course.
-
Yes
-
The
problems I had were probably due to the limitations
of my older computer - and its operator.
-
Very
helpful
-
I
have difficulty using the computer and found using the CD too difficult;
I've only just discovered the web mail. So it wasn't very helpful to me at this time.
I am improving on the computer though so I'm sure if I was confident
with computers I would have gained a lot from the CD.
-
Whilst
CD based learning is not currently my ideal choice, I did find the layout
of the CD's easy to navigate. Initially hyper-linking caused me to get a bit
lost, but learned to navigate with not too much difficulty.
-
Quite
helpful - Yes but also include some hard print material such as intro booklet
for quick reference
-
Good,
easy to use, easy to understand
-
Would
prefer this approach in other courses
-
Did
not use the CD. No
-
I
did find that the cd based learning was a very helpful/useful learning elements. I find text and printed materials easier and
more accessible. Still a great way
to learn though
-
Although
technology is advancing the use of printed materials is still the easiest
way to study and is a lot more comfortable using that staring at a computer
screen where you can't highlight main points or add your own notes in places.
-
THEY
WERE VERY EFFECTIVE
-
It
was most helpful and easy to use. I would like to see the same thing in other
courses.
-
Yes,
but I still find printed material useful
-
The
layout of the CD was great and logically spaced out making it easy to locate
certain sections.
-
I
would prefer print out.
-
I
found the assignment guidelines and instructions 'scattered' and not accessible
from the one place. For example, I would have expected Assignment 1 instructions
to be under Assessment-Assignment 1 but it was the last thing on the 'assignment
guidelines' page.
-
Yes.
Hyper linking provides essential information that can be accessed immediately
rather than having to remember from the Study book.
-
As
much as I didn't like the CD, the format of it with the hyperlinking was
good.
-
Yes
-
I
didn't like the cd.
-
The
CD based learning materials in helping locate and access associated learning
elements were relatively effective. However, I wouldn’t like to see it in
other courses
-
Yes
-
yes
definitely, this way the information is quickly accessible.
-
Yes
-
In
my opinion the materials are fine, yes I like the hyperlinking. I can't
really comment on other courses as the only course I can compare to a this
stage is foundation computing. Their approach is brilliant. For example
if I had a problem with something, I felt at ease to ask and I would have
an answer in very short time frame. The access straight in their web site
it is easier to navigate than WebCT. Their web page also has a more personal
approach, I didn't feel isolated as I did with this.
-
I
thought the Cd was great. It was efficient and easy to use. However in some
courses I like to have every single thing in print, especially if there
is an exam at the end of the semester. I have found that it can often be
cheaper to actually buy print at the bookshop then to print from a CD! I
am a real note taking person and I love having things on paper, however
the CD idea is great for some courses including CMS 1000.
-
Yes,
it was great
-
Very
effective. Yes. I like the idea of the CD and the study books are excellent.
I find I used both methods.
-
YES
-
I
thought the CD based learning materials were excellent - I would certainly
like to see such material introduced into other courses (see Education)
-
If
the user has the note book computer, the user can navigator a large amount
of note. The user does not need to bring the large size of paper note.
-
As
a first timer, the only way I managed to link to e-library was through the
CD link. I couldn't find what I wanted by just going to the website without
using the link. I found the exercises with the Harvard Referencing system
extremely useful and used it continually to check my referencing.
-
Yes.
I found the CD is quite easy to use and handle.
-
some
of the content in the hyperlink could not be opened by my notebook as the
content by prevented by my browser.
-
Yes
-
Quite
effective. I think it would work best in combination with print material.
-
The
CD based learning materials were effective and the hyper-linking worked
well.
-
Absolutely
loved the CD format - should be used across all disciplines and courses
(let's save a few trees & the students a few dollars in not having to
purchase study packs). Found it easy to locate and access all elements of
this course.
-
The
CD was very effective and I definitely think that this method should be
used in all external courses.
-
I
would very much like to see this introduced to other courses. I found it
extremely easy and useful to use. Much easier that carrying around the printed
version.
-
Yes,
so long as external hyperlinks are kept up to date; web sites change so
frequently.
-
Very
effective. The hyper-links were great.
-
I
USED ONLY A FEW OF THE HYPERLINKS AS FOUND THE INFO OVERWHELMING. WITH XMAS
AND OTHER FESTIVITIES OVER THIS PERIOD, WAS HARD TO FOCUS - SO I DON'T WANT
TO BE NEGATIVE HERE
-
No
-
The
CD based learning materials format (e.g. hyper-linking)were v helpful in
helping me to locate/access related learning elements - faster/direct access
provided. Yes, I would like to see the same in other courses.
-
Yes
they were effective and yes I would like to see similar resources in other
courses.
-
Yes,
it was easy to navigate through the CD so you could concentrate on the subject
rather than searching for information.
-
The
learning materials on the cd were very effective
-
NOT
SURE
-
yes
I would.
-
Being
able to quickly and easily locate associated materials electronically in
a format such as a CD is the norm for such as this is one of the major advantages
of producing in such a format. Printable electronic availability of material
for other courses would be helpful.
-
Information
was easily accessible , hyperlinks were good. Study schedule did not fully
represent what the student should have learned by the dates.
-
I
found it effective and very easy to navigate. Yes I would like to see similar
tools offered in other courses.
-
As
a very basic computer user I found I was able to work through the CD but
probably did not use it to its full potential
-
Yes,
CD Rom is far more interactive, helpful and user friendly.
-
Found
it at times to be a bit of a maze going through all the links. overall I
prefer study materials printed.
-
Studying
via distance education, the cd provided good access to info. Love to see
it in all courses.
-
I
did'nt really use the CD much as I bought a study book from the bookshop.
I have nothing against the CD version as it is just a personal preference
thing where the less radiation I get from a monitor the better.
-
Very
effective. Yes, in other courses this would be beneficial.
-
Ok
I prefer the booklets as using the computer to look up course content stops
me using for other things eg study notes it is painful flicking from screen
to screen
-
I
thou7ght this was useful as it my first university course
-
I
believe the use of CD technology enhances the course materials, however
I have a personal preference to using hardcopies for reading. Future generations
brought up in a class room using computers will be more accepting of purely
CD based technology with hardcopies becoming less important.
-
Seldom
use the CD so no opinion.
-
IT
IS VERY EFFECTIVE, AS I PREFFER TO DO RESEARCH ON CD INSTEAD OF THE PRINTED
MATERIAL, IT ALSO HELP TO SAVE TIME. ANYWHERE I GO I BRING ALONG THE CD
WHICH IS SO MUCH LIGHTER THAN THE BOOK. I REALLY LOVE TO SEE THE SAME THING
HAPPENING WITH THE CD LEARNING MATERIALS.
-
Very
useful. I could scan over drop down menus and find what I was looking for.
I think the cd based learning would be very useful in other courses.
-
Effective,
Yes
-
Yes,
very effective
-
The
CD demanded that users have a certain computer operating system which was
limiting
-
They
were very effective. I would definitely like ot see the same thing in other
courses.
-
Very
helpful. Yes I would.
-
Hyperlinking
works for me, it saves time and points us in the right direction. Yes it
would be good to continue with it.
-
Yes.
I found them effective.
-
I
am a bit of a luddite, and prefer materials in print. For instance, I was
really disappointed that the USQ Handbook was not available in print form,
and the same goes for CD materials. For this reason, I have not chosen web
based learning for my Graduate Diploma, either. I like to be able to highlight,
handwrite notes on paper around the materials as this is the way I learn
and retain information. Not a fan of e-learning and CD resources.
-
Basically,
i do not feel that the CD is effective or useful in the sense that it is
inconvenient to access especially if you do not carry a laptop or have any
access to a computer at any time. I would strongly prefer the printed learning
materials and probably fewer CD based learning materials.
