Role

Professor Taylor has served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor since June 2000. As head of the Division of Global Learning Services, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Global Learning Services (GLS) also acts as Chief Information Officer for the University, and is responsible for the leadership, coordination and effective operation of the Division of Academic Information Services comprising the Distance and e-Learning Centre and the University Library. In addition, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (GLS) has oversight of the development of e-university systems, via a number of leading edge projects.

Background

From 1988 to 2000 Professor Taylor held the position of Professor and Director, of the Distance and e-Learning Centre at USQ. During this time he was also a member (1982 to present), Vice-President (1996 – 2001) and President (2002 to 2005) of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). In 1999 Professor Taylor was awarded the ICDE Inaugural Individual Prize of Excellence for “an active role in ICDE and internationally over many years with significant contributions made to research and development in the field of open and distance learning”. His areas of research interest include e-learning, cognitive science, the technology-pedagogy interface, and associated organisational development.

Personal details

Professor Taylor’s interests include sport, theatre, music and spending time with his wife and family.
