Right to Information and Administrative Access Scheme

Important information - RTI and IP Access Requests (impact of COVID-19)

As part of managing the impact of COVID-19 the University of Southern Queensland, continues to implement measures in relation to managing all access requests, therefore, we ask for your support, patience and understanding regarding unplanned delays and/or reduced capacity to deal with access/amendment applications and privacy-related matters as staff who are managing these requests are working from home.

We will still offer the following assistance:

·            remain contactable; and

·            process incoming hardcopy/electronic correspondence including, but not limited to:
             formal RTI/IP application forms, informal information requests).

There may be some unique challenges for the RTI and IP decision makers in these uncertain times such as:

·         reduced or no ability to accept delivery of access/amendment applications in person,
          and to sight evidence of identity in person;

·         reduced ability to search for and retrieve documents from business units
          (particularly in relation to hardcopy documents).

The University’s RTI and Privacy Officers are committed to providing the usual Right to Information and Privacy functions to students, staff and community members.

General Information

The Right to Information is the Queensland Government's approach to giving the community greater access to information. This approach applies to the University. The Queensland Government has made a commitment to provide access to information held by the Government and public authorities (which includes USQ), unless it is contrary to the public interest to provide that information. The Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) came into effect on 1 July 2009.

At USQ, Enterprise Information Management Services (EIMS) is responsible for matters regarding Right to Information (RTI).

Right to Information requires proactive release of information under administrative arrangements. USQ has a Publication Scheme which provides the public with access to a broad range of information. If you need access to further information you must send a request for access. For further information please contact the Corporate Records Coordinator.
