This course will provide an opportunity for doctoral candidates to pursue their research interests in the area that will form the foundation of their EdD proposal and Dissertation/Folio. The specialisation chosen by students will enable them to investigate an area of study that will provide an opportunity to establish a comprehensive literature review related to their professional interests and needs.
Students will pursue an in depth study within their specialisation area. It will involve an extensive investigation of the literature relevant to the particular focus of the individual's major study area. This will lead to the submission of a critical literature review paper and that will form the basis of a proposed paper for presentation at a conference. NOTES: 1. This course (EDU8602) is available through INTERNET DELIVERY ONLY. There are NO print materials for this course. 2. On completion of this course students will be able to:
- locate and identify published research-based material relevant to the area of specialisation (Annotated Bibliography)
- articulate a research problem appropriate for investigation through a review of research-based published material in their area of specialisation (Annotated Bibliography)
- record and present bibliographic details and summaries of research-based published material in the area of specialisation as an annotated bibliography (Annotated Bibliography)
- prepare a review of research literature relevant to the intended area of doctoral research, including at least one proposed research question derived from the review (Paper)
- demonstrate competence in and appropriate use of language and literacy, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and bibliographic referencing (Annotated Bibliography/ Paper)

Important assessment information
There are no attendance requirements for this course. However, it is the students' responsibility to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.
Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
To complete an individual assessment item satisfactorily, a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks.
Penalties for late submission of required work:
If students submit required assignments late without the approval of the Examiner, they may receive a Fail grade for the course.
Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.
Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
As P is the only passing grade available for this course, all students who are qualified for a passing grade as in Important Assessment Information Note 4 (above) will be given a grade of P. Other students will be given either a Failing grade or an Incomplete grade.
There is no examination in this course.
Examination period when Deferred/Supplementary examinations will be held:
As there are no examinations in this course, there will be no deferred or supplementary examinations.
