Students must be available for a prescribed period of time to undertake a placement in a school or other approved site as required in this course.

Technology can be understood as a general process of responding to human needs and wants by designing products that take advantage of available opportunities and have impacts and consequences. If educators have a deep understanding of the technology process, they can better design and implement activities that allow students to learn about technologies both as a focus of special study and when integrated with other areas of the curriculum. This course will develop students' understanding of technologies, including digital technologies and the technologies design process, in ways that will enable them to plan and teach technologies appropriately within the school curriculum.


Students will understand technology as a human activity and the contribution of technology education to general education. They will investigate Australian and Queensland curriculum documents relevant to technology education and develop related knowledge and skills. They will apply pedagogical approaches appropriate to technology education as the basis for planning and adapting relevant learning activities. The course will emphasise experiential learning, including through the integration of ICT, appropriate to technology education by engaging students in individual and collaborative activities. The course includes a 15-day professional experience placement during which student will plan and teach in an appropriate setting and investigate the implementation of technology education in context.

  3. demonstrate familiarity with curriculum documents relevant to technology education (Task 1, Assignment- Quiz; Professional Standards 2.1, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4)
  4. demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to the content of technology education (Task 1, Task 2, Assignment- Quiz; Professional Standards 2.1, 2.2, 2.3)
  5. plan, develop, and evaluate learning activities using pedagogies appropriate to technology education (Task 2, Assignment- Quiz; Professional Standards 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.6, 5.1)
  6. demonstrate understanding of how ICT can be integrated to enhance learning in technology education (Task 2, Assignment- Quiz; Professional Standards 2.6, 4.5)
  7. demonstrate understanding of current developments in technology education and how teachers can develop relevant professional knowledge (Task 1, Assignment- Quiz; Professional Standards 6.1, 6.2, 6.4)
  8. successfully complete a 15 day professional experience, displaying appropriate professional knowledge, skills and conduct (Professional Experience; Professional Standards 4.1, 4.2, 4.5, 5.1, 5.2, 5.4, 7.1, 7.2)
  9. demonstrate knowledge of course content using appropriate modes and conventions of expression with attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation and bibliographic referencing (All assessments; Professional Standard 2.5).

A mark of one (1) indicates you have passed the Professional Experience component. A mark of zero (0) indicates you have not passed the Professional Experience component. Professional Experience should be conducted as per the Professional Experience Calendar unless approval has been granted by the Course Examiner.

  1. Attendance requirements:
    It is the students? responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.

  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks.

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course and must satisfactorily complete the sector-based professional experience.

  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.
