Other requisites

Students must have successfully completed the entire previous year's professional experience courses in order to enrol in this course.

Students must be available for a prescribed period of time to undertake a placement in a school or other approved site as required in this course.

State law in Queensland (Australia) requires that all adults working/undertaking professional experience/researching with children under the age of 18, in the state of Queensland are required to possess a current suitability card (Blue Card). Rationale

Technology can be understood as a general process of responding to human needs and wants by designing products that take advantage of available opportunities and have impacts and consequences. If educators have a deep understanding of the technology process, they can better design and implement activities that allow students to learn about technologies both as a focus of special study and when integrated with other areas of the curriculum. This course will develop students' understanding of technologies, including digital technologies and the technologies design process, in ways that will enable them to plan and teach technologies appropriately within the school curriculum.

Synopsis

Students will understand technology as a human activity and the contribution of technology education to general education. They will investigate Australian and Queensland curriculum documents relevant to technology education and develop related knowledge and skills. They will apply pedagogical approaches appropriate to technology education as the basis for planning and adapting relevant learning activities. The course will emphasise experiential learning, including through the integration of ICT, appropriate to technology education by engaging students in individual and collaborative activities. The course includes a 15-day professional experience placement during which student will plan and teach in an appropriate setting and investigate the implementation of technology education in context.

  9. demonstrate knowledge of course content using appropriate modes and conventions of expression with attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation and bibliographic referencing (All assessments; Professional Standard 2.5).

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course and must satisfactorily complete the sector-based professional experience.

    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.
