This course continues the professional preparation program in research capabilities and work integrated learning.


With respect to psychological research skills this course continues the independent piece of research conducted in Semester 1. In this semester it is expected that data will be analysed, and Results and Discussion sections written and the work done in S1 be integrated such that the output resembles an Honours thesis. Students are also expected to undertake a community/industry placement of 100 hours duration.


On successful completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Conduct an independent piece of research;
  2. use professional skills that are appropriate to the placement setting;
  3. develop and demonstrate understanding of how psychological theory informs workplace practices;
  4. develop and demonstrate teamwork and professional communication skills;
  5. provide positive contributions to the goals of the WIL placement.

  1. Attendance requirements:
    It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such as lectures, tutorials, laboratories and practical work) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.

  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To complete each of the assessment items satisfactorily, students must obtain at least 50% of the marks available for each assessment item.

  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    Students should refer to the Assessment Procedure (point 4.2.4)

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course. Note that the Conceded Pass is not available in this course due to APAC accreditation standard 2.1.9.

  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the weighted aggregate of the marks (or grades) obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.

    Since there is no examination in this course, there are no supplementary or deferred exams.

Assessment notes

  1. Students who do not qualify for a passing grade may, at the discretion of the Examiner, and in consultation with the Moderator and BPSH Program Coordinator, be assigned additional work to demonstrate to the Examiner that they have achieved the required standard. It is expected that such students will have been assessed as close to satisfactorily completing the Competency Test.

  2. The due date for an assignment is the date by which a student must despatch the assignment to the USQ. The onus is on the student to provide proof of the despatch date, if requested by the Examiner.

  3. Access to email, discussion groups and the internet is a School requirement. Students are expected to open their university provided email account and check it regularly for personal communication. Information sent this way will be regarded as being received.

  4. APA style is the referencing system required in this course. Students should use APA style in their assignments to format details of the information sources they have cited in their work. The APA style to be used is defined by the USQ Library's referencing guide. //
