Principles of Quality Curricula provides educators with a theoretical basis from which they can analyse and evaluate curricula in relation to contemporary issues and imperatives. Reflecting on the current teaching and learning contexts it is important that we begin to reflect on how curricula impacts on both educators, learners and other relevant stakeholders. Quality curricula design requires engagement with the relationships between educators, learners and the other relevant stakeholders.
Furthermore effective educators have a deep understanding of the principles of quality curricula design and the relationship between theory and practice.
Students enrolled in this course will be engaged in an inquiry into curriculum practices within a teaching and learning context - this might be their current place of work or one to which they have access. Students, through an inquiry based approach, will begin to investigate factors that impact on curriculum at these sites. To do so, students will first be introduced to various schools of thought in the area of curriculum design and evaluation. In doing this students will be engaged in a review of current curriculum practices at the site. This review will analyse curriculum documents, exploring various themes and relationships. Students will develop theoretical perspectives for design and evaluation of curriculum and use these perspectives to inform the relationship between theory and practice in a particular area of study.

- demonstrate an understanding of the various theoretical models of evaluation (Assignment 2)
- demonstrate application, relevant to your context, of the relationship between theory and practice (All Assignments)
- demonstrate an awareness of the impact of external influences on curricula design (All Assignments)
- design an evaluation process which will lead to continuous curriculum design improvement within your own context (Assignment 2)
- demonstrate a high level of literacy and the application of language in the design of curriculum (All Assignments)
- demonstrate high standard of literacy, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and bibliographic referencing (All Assignments).

However, it is the students' responsibility to participate appropriately in all activities including discussion fora scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.
Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks

Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.
Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course
There is no examination in this course.
