Graduates in a variety of disciplines will increasingly be expected to have a basic familiarity with digital and multimedia technology as an important part of their professional preparation, particularly the key issues raised in the development of animation in its variety of forms.
A comprehensive, specialist course designed to develop professional CG animation skills for digital artists through production-focused learning environments. Students will develop a solid awareness of the processes involved in creating short animated sequences from first principles through to complete rendered sequences.
On completion of this course students should be able to:
- define and develop methodologies of storytelling and narrative structures for animation
- use a variety of techniques to animate objects used in contemporary animated films, television and computer games
- understand animation from first principles
- demonstrate communication skills appropriate to the profession by producing an exercise portfolio
- demonstrate creativity, initiative and enterprise by creating a motion sequence as part of the exercise portfolio.

Important assessment information

External and Online: There are no attendance requirements for this course. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks.

Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
To be assured of receiving a passing grade, a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.
Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.
