Rationale

This course is designed to bring together all practical and theoretical material addressed during university teaching or during clinical placement for the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Honours) (Clinical Exercise Physiology). Students’ skills in assessing individual case studies then designing appropriate clinical assessment, exercise intervention programs, and risk management will be enhanced in this course. Students will also have opportunity to explore and undertake applied clinical research or program audit.

Synopsis

This course provides the students a final opportunity to address clinical case study assessment. Students will engage in advanced case study assessment involving: clinical assessment design, exercise intervention strategies dependent on clinical assessment outcomes, advanced report writing, clinical medical and allied health collaborative report writing, risk management, program audit, and the application of clinical research. This course will focus on a collegial professional-level engagement with the students to develop students' ability to self-analyse the rationale behind their clinical skills (clinical decision-making processes and report writing structure).

Objectives

On successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Analyse clinical case studies and outline appropriate advanced level functional movement and physiological testing to achieve a clear assessment of the clients’ health status and exercise ability based on best practice research.
  2. Create exercise intervention programs based on sound functional movement and physiological testing.
  3. Re-evaluate clinical assessment methods and exercise interventions to improve risk management based on best practice research.
  4. Design and evaluate clinical notes and report writing.

Important assessment information

  1. Attendance requirements:
    It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.

    To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks for that item.

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must attempt all assessment items, and achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.

  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative items for the course.

  6. Examination information:
