Overview

This capstone course prepares students for their future careers as ICT professionals via a team-based project in a real-world or simulated real-world ICT work environment. Students will evidence their learning through the application of high-level professional, technical and teamwork skills to collaborate and complete a team project. This course addresses the professional body requirement for students to apply advanced knowledge and skills to address complex, multi-faceted ICT problems.

Students will design and deliver a solution to a real-world ICT problem through the application of specialised technical knowledge and skills. Students will apply their project management skills to identify and critically analyse unpredictable, complicated problems. Potential, feasible solutions will be generated and tested to determine the best solution. Working within a team environment, students will reflect on their role within the team and the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to achieve a successful project outcome. Furthermore, students are required to reference ICT professional codes of conduct and make appropriate judgments concerning ethical issues and cultural diversity.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. Support and improve technology initiatives through effective project and team management knowledge and skills;
  2. Appraise an ICT problem and design a solution drawing on creativity and initiatives in network engineering, software development, data science or computing technology, and deliver solutions applying in-depth theoretical and technical ICT knowledge;
  3. Successfully complete an ICT project with a real industry client or simulated with an internal role or industry client by adapting appropriate technical processes and skills;
  4. Build a team and effectively collaborate to create a solution to an unpredictable and complex ICT problem;
  5. Effectively and professionally communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders;
  6. Critically reflect on the process and experience of planning and implementing the project;
  7. Make appropriate judgments informed by ethics, professional codes of conduct, and culture awareness within the ICT work environment.
