KNL2002 On Country Learning: Indigenous Knowledge through Butchulla Culture

Units : 1
Faculty or Section : Faculty of Arts
School or Department : Centre for Australian Indigenous Knowledges

Knowledge of Indigenous peoples around the world is invariably told from a non Indigenous perspective. Aspects of Aboriginal culture involving history, belief, kinship language etc are commonly accessed through text based non-Indigenous sources as part of a pan-continental narrative. The On Country Learning course examines the Australian Aboriginal experience from an indigenous perspective utilising a unique combination of local Butchulla Aboriginal knowledge within the broader framework of Indigenous Studies. Thus broader issues relating to the Indigenous experience in Australia are learnt through local and specific examples involving class room and on country learning.
