Synopsis

This course is designed to equip students with some of the most important theory and tools of corporate finance. The objective of the financial manager is to maximise the market value of the firm's shares. In this course, the method of determining the cost of capital (a discount rate that can be used in capital budgeting calculations) is explored. The course focuses on the cost of capital and explores some additional theoretical issues that highlight the relevance of particular decisions (capital structure and dividend policy) to the maximisation of the current market value of the firm's shares.
