EDU5600 Improving Mathematical Learning Outcomes under the Australian Curriculum

Synopsis

The key focus of this course is improving student knowledge of mathematical concepts and numeracy outcomes from the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics to enable the effective development of educational learning opportunities for their students in primary and secondary schools. Conceptual growth is required for making progress in certain key areas of mathematics. In particular, students will consider typical conceptions and misconceptions held by children, their likely causes and teaching strategies for changing them; assessment strategies for learning programs / activities; and an exploration of online and ICT-based tools for use in developing effective teaching and assessment tools that engage learners, provide useful learning opportunities and promote enjoyment and realism.
On completion of this course students should have the knowledge and skills to effectively teach mathematics and assess student learning in alignment with the Australian Curriculum.
