Synopsis

This course provides a survey of some of the most significant currents of ideas in Western culture. Each week, the course introduces a pair of concepts that it explores in both Western and non-Western contexts, charting the history of these concepts over time and how they are applied in various disciplinary contexts. Specifically, it looks at the evolution of political thought, social and cultural categories, and the philosophical and artistic movements that continue to shape Western society today.
