Synopsis

This course examines the legal regime which regulates the raising of equity capital in Australia and the policy reasons underlying the governing rules. The course seeks to assist students to develop a proper understanding of these matters and develop and strengthen their analytical skills to appreciate the often competing perspectives that arise in this area of law such as the need to promote national economic development by facilitating corporations to raise capital efficiently while at the same time ensuring appropriate protection of the interests of prospective investors.
