This course provides an introduction to human resource management (HRM) to develop a conceptual understanding of the field of HRM by presenting an overview of the principles, theories and practices related to HRM. The focus is on how the human resources component contributes to creating competitive advantage and sustainable value for organisations and society. The primary emphasis is the linkage between HRM and organisational strategy. The course concentrates on the process of effective strategic human resource management (SHRM) guiding students in understanding and effectively dealing with HRM related issues in small, medium and large businesses and in private and public enterprises.
