Synopsis

EDM8100 has a major focus on the exploration of the multiple educational communities that pre-service teachers encounter as part of their professional practice. This course will specifically explore the student, parent/carer, professional and wider societal communities that educators engage with, and also detail mechanisms for successfully building a `professional network'. While various effective approaches and practices for engaging with communities will be explored, pre-service teachers will be encouraged to uncover their own practices of engagement and network building as an ongoing professional practice. This course will involve pre-service teachers mapping existing and potential future community networks to establish their placement as educators within wider school and community spheres. Embedded within the course is a 25 day Professional Experience under the supervision of a mentor teacher.
