This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of gifted achievement across the lifespan, potential barriers to high performance, and general approaches for supporting the development of gifted achievement. The course will introduce different conceptions of giftedness, and examine the cognitive, physical and psychosocial characteristics of gifted individuals. The course will also examine developmental challenges that gifted individuals may experience throughout their development, and discuss the importance of an ecological approach to supporting gifted individuals in a variety of environmental and spatial contexts such as the school, university or workplace. The course will also provide an overview of processes for identifying gifted individuals, and for fostering the achievement of gifted individuals.
