Synopsis

The post-war Baby Boomers, including those with disabilities, in Australia are now beginning to enter the older age group (65 years and over). This "aging boom" and the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) have triggered increased regulation regarding the delivery of services to an aging population and people with disability. A practical understanding of professional ethics, laws and regulations that apply to older persons and people with disabilities is important for individuals intending to pursue a career in health, case management, gerontology or related fields. This course will address a variety of topics related to elder and disability law, with special emphasis on the application of laws and regulations in real-world situations.
