Synopsis

This course introduces students to foundational nursing care. Students will be exposed to the key concepts surrounding language of nursing, the evolving role of contemporary nursing in Australia, the legal and ethical implications of nursing practice, workplace health and safety, infection control, and the development of clinical decision making at a foundational level. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate safe practice of fundamental skills in a simulated environment and be introduced to the significance of Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA) Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse (2006) in nursing practice. Fundamental skills of planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting nursing care are introduced in this course.
