Synopsis

This course provides students with an introduction to the content and approaches to studying in major fields of humanities scholarship, including English Literature, History, the History of Art and Creative Art and the Social Sciences. Module-based study will take students through major facets of these disciplines but will also encourage students to think of the humanities in a multi and trans-disciplinary way. The majority of the course will be embedded in examples from popular culture, including advertising, television, film and music. Critical discussion of theoretical models and content will be drawn out by meaningful examples and illustrations. Wherever possible accessible content from galleries, musea and other popular resources will be used to ground student experiences of the humanities in real world contexts.
