This course provides students with the opportunity to explore contextual, organisational and managerial issues associated with the management of firms across national and cultural boundaries for global competitiveness. The focus is on the strategic management issues of international or global management. Students will critically analyse the global business context to formulate and implement strategy for international and global operations including entry strategies, sustainability and international cooperative alliances. In addition students will critically analyse the cultural context of global management to evaluate and apply international human resource management theories. Students will identify international negotiation, ethics and cross-cultural communication issues in international companies. These activities will expand students' international management competencies, challenge their perceptions about the management of international firms, and assist them to fulfil a managerial role in an international company. The assignments expose students to the activities of companies expanding into the Asia Pacific and will challenge them to deal with complexities of international management.
