This course will encourage a critical analysis and evaluation of theories, and the effects gender, sexuality and culture have on teaching and learning outcomes, educational choices, curriculum, participation and gendered and sexual social justice in local, national and international educational contexts. This course will through lectures, tutorial activities and readings engage with a number of key topics, such as critical, feminist, queer, trans, intersex, postcolonial, and intersectional perspectives; pedagogy and reflection; critically analysing gender and sexuality focused educational policy and practice (e.g. curriculum, regulatory frameworks, behaviour, sex education and relationship policies); and researching how gender and sexualities intersect with other categories such as class, family, disability, `race', religion and sport in culturally located educational contexts. In critically evaluating and designing programs/initiatives/resources with gender, sexuality and culture in focus, students will critically explore the context of teaching and learning in their specific professional setting, including an examination of the roles of the learner, family, community and educator.
