USQ has returned with a swag of medals following a successful 2017 Northern Uni Games campaign.

It was one of the most successful years yet for the USQ team, bringing home three gold, a silver and bronze medal.

More than 80 USQ students from Toowoomba, Ipswich, Springfield and Online proudly represented the University at the event in Rockhampton and Yeppoon last week.

The tournament attracted more than 1600 students from 12 universities across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

USQ claimed gold in both men’s and women’s tennis as well as gold in golf handicap. The silver medal went to USQ men’s basketball team and bronze in men’s tennis as well.

Student Enrichment Officer (Sports and Recreation) and team manager Jared Greenstreet
said USQ was a small team with a lot of heart.

“We tied third overall in number of sports won, and finished second in the per-capita competition,” Mr Greenstreet said.

“This is an excellent achievement for our teams and one we are all very proud of.”

The 2017 Northern University Games was one of three regional games held simultaneously across Australia, with a range of sports serving as the qualifying competition for the Australian University Games later this year.
