Mr Michael Thomas has been appointed as USQ’s incoming Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise Services), commencing on 15 January 2018.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the University is fortunate to gain someone with Mr Thomas’ expertise and experience.
Mr Thomas is currently Chief Operating Officer (COO) for TAFE Queensland, responsible for the achievement of key TAFE Queensland-wide strategic objectives and targets as well as corporate functions including strategy, planning and reporting, audit, risk and compliance, pricing, legal services and asset management.
Prior to being appointed as COO, he played a key role in the TAFE Reform Program, transitioning TAFE Queensland’s functions from the Department of Education and Training into the newly formed statutory body and leading the amalgamation process for the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay Institutes.
Mr Thomas previously held senior Corporate Services and Human Resources roles at two Queensland TAFEs, and held the Acting Institute Director position at the Bremer Institute for over two years.
He has also led a range of corporate services at the Queensland Studies Authority and at Mater Health Services.
Michael holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Management (Human Resources Management) from USQ and a Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) from QUT.
USQ looks forward to welcoming Mr Thomas as the incoming Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise Services) of USQ.
Mr Ian Hawke will continue to take on the responsibilities of Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise Services) until the arrival of Mr Thomas.
