Ipswich 7 Conversations to honour Indigenous women

‘Ipswich 7 Conversations’ will take place at Ipswich Central Library where seven Aboriginal women leaders will share their stories over the next seven weeks.

USQ will celebrate the invaluable contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women by hosting a series of conversations in the lead-up to NAIDOC Week 2018.

Organised by USQ’s College for Indigenous Studies, Education and Research (CISER), ‘Ipswich 7 Conversations’ will take place at Ipswich Central Library where seven Aboriginal women leaders will share their stories over the next seven weeks.

Kicking off with Gayle Munn tomorrow night (May 16), the public are invited to share in the conversations which honour the speakers and the women who have influenced their lives.

Head of CISER Professor Tracey Bunda said the conversations reflect the NAIDOC Week 2018 theme of ‘Because of Her, We Can!’

“It is not often that we have a chance to speak with our Aboriginal women leaders and emerging leaders in our community,” Professor Bunda said.

“Too often, the wider community hears of the negative issues within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

“This is an opportunity to come along and listen to positive stories of leadership from those who are experienced and informed and know how to get things happening.

“We are inviting Indigenous, non-Indigenous, young and old to these events to help make our conversations engaging.”

The ‘Ipswich 7 Conversations’ is supported by USQ and Ipswich Libraries.
