University of Southern Queensland weathers COVID-19 storm

University of Southern Queensland students weathered the COVID-19 storm better than most according to national survey results just released.

The University’s commitment to student success has been recognised by the Federal Government’s Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) with the University’s results shining through.

According to the QILT 2020 Student Experience Survey, students at the University of Southern Queensland were able to continue to engage productively with their studies and their university despite tumultuous times.

University of Southern Queensland also recorded increases in teaching quality and student support rankings during COVID-19, bucking a national trend.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie said the University’s strong track record of providing flexible, online learning options allowed for a relatively smooth transition during the pandemic, and allowed staff to maintain their focus on learning and teaching excellence.

“We have long been a leader of high quality online education and were able to adapt quickly in response to the unfolding situation,” Professor Mackenzie said.

“During this time we continued to provide outstanding educational outcomes, particularly in areas of critical importance.”

The positive results continued in QILT’s Employer Satisfaction Survey, a national review that links the experiences of select graduates to the views of their direct supervisors.

“The University of Southern Queensland received good results across the board, and exceeded national average in overall satisfaction,” Professor Mackenzie said.

“Our courses are designed to give students the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to thrive in their career of choice.

“It’s great to see that reflected in the very strong levels of support for our graduates by employers, who particularly noted their technical skills and adaptability.”
