Engagement and Treatment Recommendations for Counselling with Young Males
21 SEP 2021
9.30 AM - 11.00 AM

In Australia, mental health challenges, intentional self-harm, and suicide are major concerns for young males. To exacerbate this crisis, young males experiencing mental illness seek out professional help the least, and tend to be more challenging to engage with, and remain in therapy, when compared with other populations. Although recent social progressions have reduced male stigma for seeking out and receiving professional support, there remains a mismatch between the relational styles and professional practices of contemporary therapists and the young males they are tasked to treat. The aim of this research is to investigate the transdiagnostic and transtheoretical factors pertinent to effective counselling with young males.
