‘I Move all day’: Physical Activity and Health in Shift Workers
22 SEP 2021
12.15 PM - 1.30 PM
Ipswich - I116A, Toowoomba - W534 or via Zoom

Presented by Tracy Kolbe-Alexander.

In order to meet the increasing demands of the 24/7 economy more than 1.6 million Australians now work shifts. Compared to those who only during daytime hours, shift workers are more likely to be overweight or obese, have cardio-metabolic disease and sleep disorders. Shift-workers poorer health outcomes are due to circadian rhythm disruptions and poorer physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep behaviours. This presentation will include data from systematic reviews and meta-analyses, comparing the health outcomes in shift workers. In addition, results from movement pattern analyses to understand physical activity and potential compensatory behaviours on work and non-workdays will be presented.
