Fostering Child Artist Identity in the Home Learning Environment

This practice-led research project aims to explore how caregivers can promote and stimulate the emergent artist identity of the primary school age child-artist. The study will investigate how the "Mantle of the Expert" can position the caregiver as "teacher" and child as "learner", fostering the child's professional artist persona. Child/caregiver teams will respond to prompts, working in tandem and collaboratively to spur the agentic 'becoming' of the child as well as inform the adult's creative practice. Auto-ethnographic journaling, interviews and artistic outputs will be collected and analysed for emergent findings.
