In Australia, municipal organic waste is commonly combined with general waste for disposal In landfills. This incurs direct disposal costs, long-term harm to the environment, and Is poor use of potentially valuable resources. Food organics and garden organics (FOGO) collection systems are Increasing In Australia due to these Impacts and processing methods are available that can value-add to organic wastes by recovering nutrients or transforming the organics Into energy and heat. However, understanding optimal FOGO processing faculties which provide maximum value Is poorly understood. This research alms to develop an assessment tool which can be applied to assist In the selection of the optimal processing facility, with considerations of feedstock properties, surrounding infrastructure and end use, by comparing facilities which use a single technology, or integrated technologies working In synergy.
