Mathematical Readiness of Asian International Students Studying Degrees Dependent on Quantitative Reasoning: An Australian Case Study
14 DEC 2021
2.00 PM - 3.30 PM

This study will examine the Asian international students' influence of prior mathematical knowledge for studying first-year mathematics at USQ. The study will employ Asian international students who study bachelor’s degrees which required a substantial amount of mathematics and quantitative reasoning fields such as Computing and IT, Sciences, Business and Finance. The conceptual framework has been designed with the combination of Sociocultural influence, Transition Pedagogy and Approaches to Studying. In this study, both quantitative and qualitative strands of data will be collected. The quantitative data will be collected from the Likert scale questionnaire, and qualitative data will be collected from lecturer interviews, focus group interviews, open-ended questions, and document analysis. The Convergent Parallel Design Method will be used to analyse data.
