07 DEC 2021
1.00 PM - 2.30 PM

Access to specialist palliative care services in residential aged care is problematic. The Aged Care Royal Commission Final Report (2020) identifies palliative care engagement as critical with care and respect a priority. Supportive palliative care ensures pain is minimised, dignity is maintained and individual wishes and family are respected. The Royal Commission Recommendations report (2020) highlights the need for high quality palliative care however recognises many gaps in the current system. Processes that increase staff capacity and clinical governance for recognising deterioration and dying is needed. This research evaluates the introduction of an integrated model of Palliative Care Hospital in the Home that aims to increase access to specialist palliative care in aged care in a regional Health Service.
