Human elephant conflict (HEC) is a severe and much-debated issue in Sri Lanka, and it is detrimental to both the health and wellbeing of humans and elephants. Existing HEC mitigation strategies such as habitat enrichment, fencing, and dealing through the trans-location of elephants have the potentials to exacerbate the conflict. Identifying HEC high-risk zones is essential information required for HEC risk management. This study will use satellite data to develop a map of the forest and other land cover maps with a high-accuracy map and identify the ideal locations for elephant habitat. This study is expected to identify patterns of local movements of elephants using greenery change of forest cover.
