Hospitality vocational education and training (VET) in Australia, continues to change and evolve, with government policies and technological advances being some of the impetuses for this change. What is being taught in the classroom and updates to curriculum have generally not, however, kept pace with these changes. This means that some topics taught at VET-level hospitality education are losing relevance to current expectations in industry. This research project analyses the current entry level hospitality curriculum (Certificate III and IV) in VET and provides suggestions for changes needed to make the qualification more relevant to hospitality industry standards. Through qualitative research, including interviews with hospitality professionals, this thesis identifies current skills that are needed in the hospitality sector today and what potential changes in curricula of hospitality needs to occur, to ensure students graduate with those skills.
