This research will study the capabilities of Hovermap, a SLAM-based LiDAR system, to rigorously map the underbreaks and overbreaks of underground stoping excavations for reconciliation purposes. The objective is to compare the accuracy of traditional ore dilution reconciliation data against those of the newly proposed using Hovermap technology. In addition, this study will test Hovermap performance under high humidity and dust conditions, some of the main issues in underground mines and a recurrent problem for CMS scans and analyse its capabilities for identifying geological structures and consequently contribution for rock mass characterisation. Hovermap has potential to improve the efficiency of mining operations through better stope and rock mass characterisation and its application will be demonstrated in an underground mine in North West Queensland.
