Indigenous Enabling Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (IECAS)

The Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship financially assists Indigenous students on low incomes with higher education costs. This scholarship is aimed at students looking to undertake or already studying an Indigenous Enabling Program such as theTertiary Preparation Program (TPP).  Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. The value of a Commonwealth Scholarship is NOT considered income for Centrelink purposes. The Indigenous Enabling Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship is for Indigenous students from regional and remote areas who need to move away from home to undertake higher education.


The Scholarship will have a maximum value of $ 5,199 for up to one year.


To be eligible applicants must:

  • be Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • be an Australian Citizen
  • be enrolled in either the Indigenous Higher Education Pathways Program (IHEPP) or the Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) at USQ in the on-campus mode
  • be from a low income background
  • have had to relocate from a regional or remote area in order to undertake study
  • not already have completed an award considered equal to or higher than an Australian bachelor's degree.

A student is ineligible if they have come from an area belonging to the major city classification.

How to apply

Incomplete applications cannot be processed. Make sure you have answered all questions and provided all supporting documents.

It is strongly recommended that you include a personal statement to ensure all of your circumstances are taken into consideration.

To apply for this Scholarship for Semester 1, 2017 applicants need to complete the USQ Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship Application Form (PDF* 531KB) and post or deliver the application and all supporting documents to:
