Acknowledging sources: referencing

What needs to be referenced?

Provide a reference (citation) whenever you:

  • paraphrase, summarise or quote someone else’s work
  • print, images, statistics, computer programs, electronic media and creative works
  • information you use in tables and figures

You don’t need to reference:

  • descriptions of your own observations and experiences
  • information that is widely known (common knowledge)
