Drawing graphs
Important features of linear graphs
Key features of graphs include:
- \(x\) and \(y\)-intercepts — where the graph crosses each axis.
- Slope or gradient (especially important for linear/straight line graphs).
\[ \mbox{gradient} = \frac{\mbox{change is height (\(\Delta y\))}}{\mbox{change in width (\(\Delta x\))}} \]
For example:
\begin{eqnarray*}
\mbox{gradient} &=& \frac{1.5}{3} \\
&=& 0.5
\end{eqnarray*}
- The \(y\)-intercept is at \( (0,0.5) \).
- The \(x\)-intercept is at \( (-1,0) \).
